The estate of la Groirie in the Sarthe department (72), just ten minutes from the centre of Le Mans, is a huge estate comprising a park with majestic trees but also an historic château built in the 17th century by a Parisian financier whose family owned lands in the Sarthe. This historic residence then underwent some architectural changes, under the guidance of a descendant who wanted to adopt the architectural ideals to the fashion of the 18th century; the principal change was to add a number of buildings to house both his guests, and also the orange trees that he collected. During a trip here, the idea of transforming the château’s guest wing into a prestige hotel came into being.
