Music is gold... Our department of Sarthe (72) offers actual and potential music lovers a series of beautiful concerts and events related to classical music. Examples are the Sablé festival at the end of August, which offers a very high quality programme every year, and the château de la Groirie itself, which organises a two or three-day festival every year, with a constantly updated programme. Our guests have the added pleasure of being able to listen to the rehearsals before taking part in these elegant soirées where music is the star attraction on the Groirie estate.
The hotel de la Groirie near Le Mans has been the patron for a number of years of top-class intimate musical soirées organised by lovers of baroque music and theatre. “Culture au château” is a resident association that organises different baroque cultural events over a weekend in September.
We consider ourselves lucky to have been able to listen to numerous musical events in the magnificent “grands communs” mirror room of the Château de la Groirie: the Stradivaria ensemble directed by Daniel Cuiller, Hugo Reyne and his “Symphonie du Marais”, or this year’s spiritual concert directed by Hervé Niquet, without forgetting such magnificent musical discoveries as the Taylor Consort. Wandering through the gardens on our way back to the charming hotel in the guest wing, with its plush rooms, every one different, is a genuine pleasure.
Not far from Sablé sur Sarthe, the hotel de la Groirie is a comfortable and charming base from which to enjoy the pleasures of the exceptional events programmed as part of the Sablé Festival.
The first edition of the festival was in 1978, making it one of the oldest and most acclaimed Baroque events in Europe. Initially a restricted gathering, the festival has grown continually over the years, with an unparalleled enthusiasm that has contributed to a renaissance in old music, but also the beautiful dance that is an intrinsic part of it.
